Biblical Core Values

Our Biblical Values were prayerfully crafted to articulate the heartfelt beliefs of the Mountain View Bible Church family. They provided the frame work for our church constitution and are the compass for our ongoing ministry. Our six core biblical values can be summarized in the acrostic, “MT. VIEW”:

Ministry Foundation

Foundational to all ministry at Mountain View Bible Church is the balance of truth and grace.   “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17, NKJV). Mountain View is a fundamental Bible-believing church which embraces the Bible as God’s perfect truth (Psalm 119:160, II Tim.3:16). Therefore, we make the Bible central in our worship service through expository preaching, our discipleship ministry, and the guide for our personal and corporate conduct. Because we are biblically principle-based, we can be innovative in our methods without compromising God’s truth.

However, in addition to being a truth-centered church, we are also grace-centered. We embrace the completed work of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection for salvation by faith (Eph.2:1-9) and our union in His death and resurrection for sanctification (Rom. 6:1-14). Therefore the focus of our teaching is away from symptom-based instruction, legalism, and externals, to helping believers fully appropriate who they are in union with Jesus Christ (Gal.2:20). This grace centered approach moves believers from religion to relationship, from doing in order to be, to being in order to do (Titus 2:11-14). We desire to be a church where those broken by religion can find healing, hope, and joy in Christ.

Tender Relationships

We value unity of the body, love for one another, and a deep sense of family community in the church (Eph. 1:1-3, I Pet.1:22-23, 3:8-9).   We believe that Jesus is dishonored and believers are crushed when carnality governs relationships ( I Cor1:10).   Therefore we will seek to keep the unity of the spirit by teaching and practicing the biblical guidelines for relationship, communication, and restoration. We teach believers to walk in the Spirit, showing the fruit of the Spirit so that the conflict that has become the norm in many churches is not present at Mountain View (Gal.5:16-26).

Verbalizing our Faith

We are church that is excited about evangelism (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8)! Therefore we provide training in personal evangelism and opportunities for church-wide strategic evangelism locally. We also put a high value on foreign missions, sending missionaries, supplying finances, and praying for the harvest.

Intentional Disciple Making

Discipleship that repairs and prepares believers for life and ministry should be at the very core of the church’s ministry (Matthew 28:19-20, Eph.4:11-12). Therefore we have an intentional and sequential one to one, small group, and seminar strategy that seeks to establish the new believer, edify the growing believer, equip the serving believer, and encourage the fruit-bearing believer.

We believe that God has appointed the church to be led and shepherded by a plurality of biblically qualified men referred to in the New Testament as “elders” (I Pet.5:1-4, Titus 1:5-9). We believe that when eldership is practiced in the church as described in the New Testament, abuses in both leadership and followership are greatly curtailed. Therefore, we make the training of godly men for leadership and the education of the body regarding biblical eldership and followership a critical priority.

The heart of our church is gathering, as the New Testament believers did, on the first day of the week for the exaltation of the triune God and the edification of believers (Acts 2:42, 20:7, I Cor.14:26). We desire worship that is honoring to God and His word, edifying for believers, and culturally relevant. Therefore our service is truth and Spirit controlled (John 4:24), a balance between traditional hymns and tasteful newer music, creatively organized around the theme of the teaching passage.
